Planning a first loop through the Boise National Forest. Where do riders normally top off, and which sections deserve extra attention for gravel or seasonal damage?

Smooth is fast enough.

An early weekday start has worked best for me. I plan fuel conservatively and treat shaded corners as a different road surface.

Check the state road and forest-service notices the same morning. Seasonal damage and temporary work can make last month's route advice obsolete.

Keeping the group small and regrouping at established stops makes these roads much more enjoyable for everyone who lives there.

    Street miles, track lessons.
