    Make sure the stock heat shields are all present after any exhaust work. Missing hardware made my used bike noticeably worse.

    Ask for a photo of every loose part next to the manufacturer's installation sheet. Spring hooks and model-specific spacers are easy to overlook.

    An early weekday start has worked best for me. I plan fuel conservatively and treat shaded corners as a different road surface.
